Choi Implanter Pen

Newest hair transplantation instruments for even better results

When Follicular Unit Extraction was first implemented as a hair transplantation method, graft extraction and implantation was done using simple manual tools. The process was then sped up with the introduction of a machine known as a micro-motor, which was using during both the extraction and the re-plantation stages. This mechanic device allowed surgeons to transplant a larger number of grafts through improved extraction. However, the micro-motor has a number of disadvantages when used for the implantation of donor grafts. Now, getFUE Hair Clinic further improves on this crucial stage with a new kind of instrument - the Choi Implanter Pen.

How Does the Choi Implanter Pen Work?

The Choi Implanter is a pen-like instrument with a hollow needle on one of its ends. Technicians at the operating room load extracted hair grafts into the hollow needle end. The surgeon then uses the pen to implant the pre-loaded into the scalp. This process is then repeated for every single graft. During a typical transplant, our hair transplant surgeon and the team use about 6 pens interchangeably to optimise the implantation time and pace.

Major Improvements and Advantages

The use of an implanter pen eliminates the need for channel incisions. Previously, the operating team would need to create tiny circular incisions on the scalp and plant grafts inside these channels. Surgeons can now "inject" grafts directly into the recipient zones. This decreases trauma and blood loss during the transplant.

As a result, using the Choi Implanter Pen, our surgeons can now achieve significantly higher graft survival rate following the transplant. Furthermore, decreased trauma means faster healing times for our patients. There is clear and onvious evidence of better aesthetic results, as grafts can be positioned with greater precision during implantation.

Graft Extraction

FUT involves removing a small strip of skin from the back of the head. Donor grafts are then extracted from this strip of skin. This typically results in a long horizontal scar at the back of the patient's head.

Once extracted, individual grafts are implanted into channel incisions. A surgeon first creates tiny incisions on the scalp and then inserts donor grafts into these channels.

Follicular Unit Extraction

Grafts are extracted individually (one by one) directly from the back of the scalp in a random fashion using a specialised tool, without having to remove a strip of skin. This type of extraction is the main difference between FUE and FUE. When done correctly, FUE extraction does not cause scarring. The donor area heals considerably faster due to less traumatic extraction.

Conventional FUE

Extracted individual grafts are implanted into channel incisions, similarly to the FUT method. A surgeon creates incisions on the scalp and then inserts donor grafts into these channels. Incisions on the recipient area add to the trauma of the transplant and slows the recovery. This also results in lower graft survival rate.

Implanter Pen FUE

Individual donor grafts are preserved in a high platelet-count solution (PRP). The grafts are then loaded into a syringe-shaped instrument and implanted directly into the scalp without the need to create donor incisions first, thus avoiding the unnecessary trauma to the scalp. Implanter Pen usage also increases the graft survival rate.

Using The Implanter Pen to Increase Denstiy

implanting hair grafts with choi implanter pen

A major advantage of the Implanter Pen technology is the ease of increasing hair density by planting grafts between existing hairs. Many patients, who were seeking a transplant as a remedy for thinning hair, were put off by the requirement to completely trim off the hair prior to the transplant. This was a requirement when using the micro-motor to create channel incisions before re-planting the donor grafts.

With the Implanter Pen, hair on the recipient areas no longer needs to be completely trimmed off. The Choi Pen can be used to "inject" donor grafts between existing hair follicles with ease. Implanting this way has another major advantage: when grafts are re-planted between existing hairs, the surgeon can clearly see the natural angle of hair growth and can perfectly position each donor graft to exactly match the existing ones. This also eliminates the risk of planing grafts too close to existing hair, giving the patient unrivalled graft regrowth rate.

These distinct advantages of The Choi Implanter Pen also come in exceptionally useful with the beard and eyebrow hair transplants. The technology, used by our experienced surgical team, gives patients aesthetically better results in terms of density and outlines. Most importantly, there is guaranteed zero scarring on the face - since no incisions are ever made!
